The advantage Intel has doesn't occur everywhere, either, with World of Tanks, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Unigine Superposition all being more GPU-bound and having next to no difference between the CPUs I've included in the graphs. That said, faster memory will see the AMD CPU narrow this gap, with Deus Ex, in particular, seeing AMD's 2nd generation Ryzen CPUs coming to within 5% of Intel. Ashes of the Singularity, Deus Ex and Far Cry 5 are certainly three games that if you play regularly, opting for Intel is a good idea. We're in a similar situation to the battle between the Ryzen 7 2700X and Core i7-9700K, where in the more CPU-bound tests, Intel does have a distinct advantage, but it's a smaller one here thanks to the lower frequencies of the Core i5-9600K compared to its big brother. I used the latest build of Windows 10 with both Spectre and Meltdown security patches installed. I used MSI's MEG Z390 Ace motherboard for Intel CPUs and for AMD CPUs, Gigabyte's X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming. I used 16GB dual-channel Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz DDR4 memory with both CPUs, Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 AMP! Edition graphics card, along with a Samsung 512GB 960 Evo SSD, Corsair H100i RGB Platinum cooler, and Corsair RM850i PSU. Combined with lower frequecies, it can only have a harder time than the Core i7-9700K in justifying its price tag.
It has significantly lower amounts of cache and like the Core i7-9700K, it lacks hyper-threading, so only has six threads. Even compared to the Ryzen 5 2600X, though, the Core i5-9600K has issues. It has fairly low frequencies, but sports eight cores and 16 threads, and costs about the same. As the title says, I'm only comparing the two 6-core CPUs here, but there's another processor that the Core i5-9600K is competing against - the Ryzen 7 2700.
